old bag

Brooklyn Industries

this company is the coolest! from start (and they are just getting stared) to finish. i linked this entry to Brooklyn Industries website which gives a brief - who what when where and why.

i love the colors, and product, but it's the concept that really does it for me. the clothing needs some work, but the bags are worth every penny, right down to the crafty little label. every once in a while i will spot someone with the original vinyl tote.

i think we could pull off a columbus industries...don't you? or maybe midwest industries, central industries...possibilities are endless!

a thought

"american Christians live in the richest nation on earth and enjoy an average household income of $42,409. the world bank reports that1.2 billion of the world's poorest people try to survive on just $1 a day. atleast one billion people have never heard the gospel. the Ronsvalles point out that if American Christians just tithed, they would have another $143 billion availible to empower the poor and spread the gospel. Studies by the United Nations suggest that just an additional $70 - $80 billion a year would be enough to provide access to essential services like basic health care and education for all the poor of the earth. If they did no more than tithe, American Christians would have the private dollars to foot this entire bill and still have $60 - $70 billion more to do evangelism around the world."

-the scandal of the evangelical conscience

though "some" of you may think Sider is very "left handed"...he does have a very good point here - putting our role and commitment as the body of Christ in perspective. So many issues in this world are sent to the wrong desk in the wrong office!

celebrity sighting!

pumping oscar iron!

woo hoo! i had my 4th celebrity sighting tonight. i was working out at the gym and went to grab some free weights. i bumped into this older guy excused myself and continued to workout. we were both facing the mirror so i got a good look and yes...it was ralph fiennes. this guy is smart b/c he picked a gym who's regulars (not including myself) are mostly 25 - 30 year old meat heads who don't recognize anything unless it's of the female persuation.

i have to say all the sighting i have under my belt have been pretty decent...matt damon, jody foster, meg ryan. oh there is one that's questionable...jessie from saved by the bell. anyone know her name? showgirls star right?? yeah, we can count her as 1/2 a sighting!

Fiennes is best known for his roles in Quiz Show, Schindler's List, and the English Patient. his most current role is The Constant Gardner out at the end of the month. it has been getting pretty good reviews. might have to see it now :) check out the link to the movie's site. looks intense!

"Cool"

logo

As seen on the west cost and east cost but not so much in the middle. when i'm walking around the city, i play where's waldo with the arctic icon.

I braved the infamous barney's sample sale tonight and found a great penguin plaid shirt for a little friend of mine. A cool brand for a cool kid!

come to find out, they have a women's line too! warning: unless shopping sample sales, product may be hazardous to your pocket(book). either way, the title of this blog links you to the brand's website...

on the train to park slope

this pic was taken by my "ohio friend" ryan. just a random shot from the trian on his way to visit me in park slope (he lives in another brooklyn neighborhood). no photoshop no expensive equipment, no joke...just a guy and his camera. these creative types! they're great aren't they?!

bats like beatles?

great band. fruit bats - kinda like beulah, kinda like the beatles. just bought their album. check out the link to their website (above). you can down load 2 mp3's for a sample (don't you love when they do that?!... no need to steal :) love the cover...it reminds me of Charles Demuth's work.

the fruit bats are going to be playing at the bowery ballroom (see link to the right) on Sept17th... anyone up for a visit?

looks like demuth

while on the mp3 topic, i cant get over the invasion of the i-pod here in the city. i know it was going on looong before i got here, and thank goodness i had my own, but i'm not quite sure how i feel about them. there's a time and place and sometimes i think they ruin any chance of having a great conversation with a complete stranger on your way to work...something you can't do in ohio. that could be a topic for another night...

welcome home?

finally! it feels like months since i have sat down to a computer to do something other than work... it has been months! i might have to weed out some stories i meant to tell, but some can't be ignored!

still life with glass

i'll begin with this big guy. he was moving out as i was moving in. haven't found any of his brothers or sisters yet (fingers crossed). for those of you who still plan to come visit, the piece of comfort i can offer - i wacked 2 of these buggers in my aunt's co-op on park ave. (one got the subway map, the other... shower gel...it was the only thing i could find quick that wouldn't ruin the hardwood floors). they're unavoidable, but manageable. they are enough to make even the dirtiest midwest transplant clean...forever!
